Prenatal Massage

Side-lying, supported, and built around where you are in your pregnancy.

What is prenatal massage?

Prenatal massage is the same detailed hands-on work as any other session, set up for a pregnant body. Slow relaxing rhythm, steady attention on whatever is sore that week, and a position you can comfortably settle into for an hour.

By the second trimester your center of gravity has moved. Your ligaments are looser than they've ever been and your low back and hips are absorbing the difference. Prenatal work takes some of that load off. Most of a session goes right there.

What it helps

  • Low back and hip pain. The most common reason people come in, and usually the first thing to ease.
  • Legs and feet that are swollen by evening. Slower, lighter work on the legs helps move some of it.
  • Shoulders and neck. By the third trimester everything has crept up toward your ears.

And if you just want one hour that's about you, that's reason enough.

What a session feels like

You'll be on your side, propped with pillows, and we switch sides partway through. Pressure stays moderate, lighter than the deep work you might be used to from a regular massage.

Move as much as you need to. It's normal to shift a few times an hour, and there's no wrong amount.

When it's not the right fit

I work with pregnancies from the second trimester on, around 13 weeks. Before that, a regular massage is still an option, or text me and we'll talk it through.

Check with your OB or midwife before you book if any of these apply:

  • A high-risk pregnancy
  • Preeclampsia or high blood pressure
  • A history of blood clots
  • Bed rest, or any bleeding

If you're not sure, text me at (206) 249-9724.

Common Questions

For an uncomplicated pregnancy past the first trimester, yes. The adjustments are about positioning and pressure, not about avoiding the work altogether. If your pregnancy is high-risk or your provider has flagged something, get their okay first.

Second trimester, around 13 weeks.

No. You'll be on your side, supported with pillows. Face-down stops being comfortable or practical past the first few months, and the cushions that claim to solve it tend to leave your low back unsupported.

Say so. We'll shift you, sit you up, or take a break for as long as you need. Nothing about the session depends on you staying still.

Yes, as long as you're comfortable getting here and your provider hasn't said otherwise. Some people book right through their last week.
